Città della Pieve's World famous Palio

Live the 'Game of Throne's' over the last two weeks in August when the town transforms itself back to medieval times. With spectacular performances involving acrobatics, fire eating, dressage, battles with knights in armour and atmospheric, artisanal night and day markets. All performed or presented by townsfolk in authentic costume. Culminating in a parade of more than one thousand costumed participants and an archery contest of skill and passion.

Saffron Festival

Saffron production in Città della Pieve has its origins in the 13th century: the first evidence dates back to 1279, when in the Statute of Perugia prohibited the planting of crocus bulbs by outsiders.Today the consortium "Il croco di Pietro Perugino – Zafferano di Città della Pieve" is made up of 30 saffron growers who've created a weekend event around their top rated product featuring artisans, music and cookery classes. In September join us for 5 nights or to enjoy special rates.
